California seismic and energy codes have made walls of glass, typical of mid-century modern design, intrinsically expensive by requiring steel framing and increased insulation. Here, strategic, limited use of glass tricks the eye, maintaining the hallmark indoor/outdoor connections of modern homes without the cost.
